Alemany Farm

San Francisco, CA, 2013

The Alemany Farm is San Francisco’s largest urban farm. A not for profit organization, the 4.5 acre farm is nestled between Interstate 280, the St. Mary’s public housing project, and the steep back end of Bernal Hill. The farm provides food, education, events, and a quiet green space for the community.

In partnership with the farm, California College of the Arts students in Rebecca Katkin’s “TURF” studio (Design for Tomorrow’s Urban Farming) created a new storage shed, signage, and self-guided tour of the farm. Students from this course also won a grant, based on their work in the studio, to create an outdoor kitchen for the farm.
